No 37 Barcelona Marathon-Spain Finished 3hr 19mins

March 6th 1.30am rise and shine and drive to Dublin then Fly Direct to Barcelona.

I went straight to registration and got all my bits sorted.

Back to the hotel and I spent the rest of the time catching up with some work as my do list is now looking like a book. Off to bed after a nice bath at about midnight and went quietly into noddy land.

March 7th Race day

I got up around 6am and got ready. I felt really tired as I do a lot these days. I have been working hard and traveling a lot lately with work and it is starting to affect me both mentally and physically. However I,m here now so shut up moaning Mr Donnelly.

The race started at 8.30am and I got a nice rhythm going early on. There was a lot of bands and people all out on the streets which is always a great help. At the halfway stage I was ok but looking forward to the end. Then at mile 15 I felt great again and continued nicely along for the rest of the race. I finished in 3hr 19mins and even managed to jog back to the hotel. I ran the Barcelona marathon a few years ago but the course was different. Before it went right out of town and was not very exciting at all but they have got it right now. A great marathon that runs through a great city and takes in all the sites and atmosphere and it was a pure joy. Lots of entertainment too and the Spanish really got behind the runners. After I finished and had a bath I too went out to cheer on the runners and found it really enjoyable. It gave me another insight into the pure determination of some of the runners completing the race in over 6 hours and beyond. Their my heroes.

Next up the Sahara Desert Marathon Del Sables.
