N0 27 Reykjavik Marathon Iceland 2009
Date added : 23-Aug-2009

August 21st      Travel day to

Reykjavik Iceland.

Landed in Reykjavik and registered in a small centre and then headed to the famous Blue lagoon hot spring. The blue lagoon was right up my street, man and nature.

I have had a bath almost every night since I was a child and it turned out that my hotel room had only a shower so bath with a difference it was and I loved it.

August 22nd Race day

Up bright and early and as luck would have it the marathon starts about two minutes from my hotel. The gun went off at 8.40am and away we went. The first 5 miles are around Reykjavik with small pockets of people cheering here and there. We then head out of town running along the coast for basically the rest of the race. Not many stories here as the race is holistic in many ways as you seem to be on your own most of the way. There are not many people out and about. The run tends to stay by the sea a lot which I like then it goes through a few parks. I had a nice run although I felt sluggish a lot as I haven’t run in a few weeks and was on holidays with my family. After the race I got on a bus and headed back out to the lagoon where I stayed in the water for 6 hours before having to get my act together for flight home.

Reykjavik is a nice place. I would have preferred to have my wife with me but maybe next time as I would like to come back for a visit.  It’s a nice marathon, small, quite, and well worth a try.
