No 23 Connemara marathon ( Unofficial )
Date added : 20-Jul-2009

July 15th

After a rough month to say the least what with the Volvo Ocean Race taking most of my time and Harry not been well I had to cancel the Peru trip at the last minute.

But never fear the main man from Athenry yet again was doing the Connemara Marathon that evening starting at 8pm. So Ray O Connor the race Director of the Connemara marathon drove us out and Myself, Mick and Valerie Glavin set off.

Mick tore off as he was going to run under 3hours which he did in 2hr 53mins (no better man), I was delighted for him. I only have met Mick a few times but he is a special kind of man, a joy to be in his company. Myself and Valerie took it steady

Chatted in the rain, the sun, the clouds etc, then darkness fell, torches on and my god

What a beautiful place to be running, then the space shuttle passed over our heads and it was magic. Just under four hours we made it to maam cross where Mick and gang awaited with tea and sandwiches and chat. It doesn’t get much better than this. Beautiful scenery and a lovely bunch of people with not much in common except the love of running and the rhythm that’s created with our hearts and feet as we pound the roads soul searching for something that we have already but may not know it yet,

Freedom and harmony in Nature.
