Another Easter away with no eggs, ah well that’s cricket as they say!!

April 9th leave home and head off to Cape Town. Arrived safe and sound

Friday morning and collected my number. I had a call from a great man called

Padraig Swan  from Carlow who was also running to meet up and so I met himself and his friends Alan Moore who also ran the ultra, a Saw Doctor fan no less who’s favourite  Song is’ never mind the strangers’ which was a new one an me but none the less a Classic saw docs tune . Another man buy the name of P.L Curran also from Carlow was there, although not running but taking pics with a huge

camera much bigger than himself, this man just made me laugh and cry all at the same time, thank God for people like him, Audrey Hogan from Dublin joined us also although not running but was much needed support across the board and lovely company, and from south africa herself Marina Scheffers kept us all on our toes and promised to run next year in return, Fair play!!

As soon as dinner finished I headed off  to bed bright and early.

April 11th 35 Mile Ultra

Rise and shine 2am, bath, wash and get ready and headed down to the start.

Gun went off at 6.25am and away we go. I settle into a rhythm straight away

And just got on with it. The first 21k of this run or more or less straight and flat

And by the time we reached fish Hoek at 21k I was feeling great and really

Enjoying the run. Now off we head to Chapman’s peak with some killers hills

That would test the best of them. Up we go no bother and at 34k we reach the top,

Then a lovely downhill into Houtbay before we start the killer and famous climb

Up Constantia Nek at 46k. The remaining 10k to the finish was bliss. The crowd,

The energy, the weather and basically South Africa in general made the run just a pure pleasure. I crossed the finish line in 4hr 51mins. After the race I met my irish friends for a lovely meal and chat and the off to bed for a flight home early next day

And back west to where I belong. South Africa thanks you xxx
